Make your own dictionary
Many people release KDIC/KDIC DA dictionary on the internet, but making your own dictionary is one of feature of KDIC.
To make your own KDIC/KDIC DA dictionary, follow steps:
  1. Making text based dictionary file.
  2. Convert this text based dictionary file into KDIC dictionary format with convert program included in KDIC release archive.
  3. Install generated dictionary on Palm.
In following section, each steps are described.
1. Making text based dictionary file
Make dictionary file with text editor (many kind of text editor is available as public domain).
Keyword and it's translation must be on one-line, and must be separated with
' /// ' (ie. SPACE + /// + SPACE)
Following is the example.
    abroad /// Gaikoku de
    absent /// Huzai no
    abstract /// Chuushoutekina
If you need newline in translation, you can put '\n'.
As example:
    like /// [adj]Onaji no\n[prep]...No youni\n[adv]Hobo
This line will be displayed on Palm as follows:
    [adj]Onaji no
    [prep]...No youni
For explanation, call this file as 'simple.txt'.

2. Convert into KDIC dictionary format
Gendic.exe and compdic.exe should be included in KDIC archive. You can convert text based dictionary file (that you made in step 1.) with these programs. You need to use Windows or MS-DOS to execute these programs.
Following example is Window 95/98 case.

1. Create working directory
Create working directory for generating dictionary. As example, C:\TMP\KDICDIC
Please confirm enough disk space are there. You need about 4 x size of text dictionary file you made as step 1.
Copy gendic.exe and compdic.exe to this directory.
2. Open DOS window
Open Start -> Program -> MS-DOS prompt.
MS-DOS window will come up.
After that, execute
As a result, 'KDIC.PDB' will be generated.
After execution of GENDIC.EXE, 'OUT' directory will be generated. This directory is temporary directory, so you can delete this.
3. Install generated dictionary
Please install dictionary generated step 2. as well as installation of other application.

Option of GENDIC.EXE (v1.20)
-n option
You can specify name of dictionary to be generated. This dictionary name will be used on KDIC on Palm. If you don't specify dictionary name by this option, dictionary name will default to 'KdicDB'. I recommend to specify appropriate dictionary name for multiple dictionary environment.
Note: You can not use '[', ']' character for dictionary name.
-o option
You can specify file name to be generated. If you don't specify, file name will default to 'KDIC.PDB'.
-l option
Specify this option to generate Huge Dictionary. If you encounter Error: Too big Index Record... error message, please specify this option. But generated dictionary file MUST be put on SD-Card or MemoryStick.
    If you execute:
      GENDIC -n SpainJapanese -o SpJa.pdb spainjapanese.txt
    Input file is 'spainjapanese.txt',
    generated 'SpJa.pdb' file.
On the Palm device, KDIC will recognize this dictionary
    as 'SpainJapanese' for dictionary name.

GENDIC.EXE (v1.20) error messages
Error: No more memory
Not enough memory.
Error: Too Long (xxx chars) Lines in input file (line yyy)
Too long lines detected on line yyy. (one line must be shorter than 4089 byte).
Error: Too long word in line xxx
Keyword on line xxx is too long. (must be less than 127 byte)

Dictionary file is too big. In this case, please specify -l option as mentioned above. But generated dictionary file MUST be put on SD-Card or MemoryStick.
